Traditional lumber (especially large sized pieces) are typically milled from large trees which are often centuries old. The smaller trees that are grown in sustainable forests are located closer to urban areas, so the distance that the material travels is greatly reduced. Engineered wood is lighter than traditional lumber and can be cut to exact lengths required for each project, so there is less weight that needs to be transported, substantially reducing fuel emissions into the environment.
The adhesives used to bond these products together are low or non emitter’s of VOC’s. Manufacturers are constantly researching new and better adhesives which are stronger, more durable, and more eco friendly.
